Satoshi Hara
Through processes such as hammering and carving, the artist reveals the subtle textures and inherent vitality of metal.
Focusing on the delicate variations and traces that emerge on imperfect surfaces, the work gives form to the latent energy contained within the material itself, exploring the relationship between metal, the human body, and the act of making.
History
Born in Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan, in 1962.
Completed a Master's degree in Hammered Metalwork at Tokyo University of the Arts in 1988.
Joined the Faculty of Crafts at Kanazawa College of Art in 2003, while continuing to exhibit extensively in Japan and internationally.
Currently a Full Member of the Japan Kōgei Association.
Has also served as a part-time lecturer at Tokyo University of the Arts, Joshibi University of Art and Design, Nagaoka Institute of Design, and the Kanazawa Utatsuyama Kogei Kobo (Kanazawa Utatsuyama Craft Workshop).
