Ceramic Artist

Working from the foundation of traditional ceramic techniques, the artist expands the form and structure of vessels, creating works that transcend the boundary between function and sculptural expression.

Drawing on an in-depth study of classical ceramics—including research on China's historic Longquan kilns—the artist presents a contemporary vision for the future of ceramic art.

History

Born in Gifu, Japan, in 1974.

Graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts in 1999 and completed a master's degree there in 2001.

Recipient of numerous awards, including the Encouragement Award at the East Japan Traditional Art Crafts Exhibition, the Hagi Grand Prize, and the Chunichi Ceramic Art Award at the Mino Ceramic Art Exhibition.

The artist's works are held in museum collections in Japan and abroad.

Currently a Full Member of the Japan Kōgei Association, a Member of the Japan Ceramic Art Association, a Part-time Lecturer in the Department of Crafts at Tama Art University, and a Cultural Ambassador for Hashima City, Gifu Prefecture.
