Focusing on the gentle character of glass, the artist's practice is centered on the traditional kiriko cutting technique.

By hand-carving softly wavering linear patterns into subtly matte glass surfaces, the work explores the delicate interplay of transmitted light, shadow, and texture.

Reminiscent of light filtering through washi paper, each piece embraces subtle irregularities, preserving the quiet fluctuations that give the material its unique presence.

History

Born in Yamagata, Japan, in 1969.

Graduated from the Tokyo Glass Art Institute in 1996.

From 2001 to 2006, worked as a glass artist-in-residence at the Kanazawa Utatsuyama Kogei Kobo (Kanazawa Utatsuyama Craft Workshop).

Established an independent studio in 2007.

Received the Encouragement Award at the Japan Traditional Art Crafts Exhibition in 2012, followed by the Excellence Award in 2017.

Currently a Full Member of the Japan Kōgei Association.
