Lison de Caunes
One of France's leading straw marquetry artists, renowned for revitalizing the traditional craft of straw marquetry (marqueterie de paille) for the contemporary era.
Raised in the workshop of her grandfather, André Groult, one of the leading figures of the Art Deco movement, she was introduced to straw marquetry from an early age. After many years devoted to the restoration of historic decorative works, she turned to creating contemporary pieces, playing a pivotal role in the revival of this remarkable craft tradition.
History
Founded Ateliers Lison de Caunes in 1978.
Named Maître d'Art (Master of Art) by the French Ministry of Culture in 1998.
Awarded the rank of Chevalier of the Légion d'Honneur in 2010.
Today, drawing on more than four decades of experience, she creates furniture, wall panels, and architectural decorative works while collaborating with internationally renowned designers and luxury brands, continually expanding the creative possibilities of straw marquetry.
