Yasuyoshi Matsumoto
Working with the copper alloy known as irogane, the artist draws out a rich spectrum of colors through firing and carefully controlled chemical reactions.
Through the process of casting, the work reveals the hidden character and texture of metal, exploring the point at which material and time intersect.
History
Fourth-generation head of Horikawa Foundry, a casting workshop established during the Meiji era.
After studying graphic design at university, the artist pursued a career in metal casting under the guidance of his father, master metal caster Ryuichi Matsumoto.
Today, he continues the legacy of the family workshop, producing flower vessels and decorative objects while also contributing to the restoration of Important Cultural Properties in Japan.
Currently a Full Member of the Japan Kōgei Association.
