Woodturning Artist
Alain Mailland
Specializing in the unique technique of hollowing green wood, the artist creates original works inspired by the forms of marine life and plants. He also developed a dedicated tool for carving flowers from a single piece of wood. His practice incorporates a wide range of techniques, including off-center turning, bentwood construction, and sandblasting.
History
Born in Côte d'Ivoire in 1959.
Studied fine arts in France before working as a stonemason and carpenter specializing in timber construction. He later founded his own woodworking company.
Discovered woodturning in 1987 and began his full-time artistic practice in the 1990s.
In addition to exhibiting at craft exhibitions throughout France and abroad, he studied under renowned woodturning masters including André Martel, Michael Hosaluk, Terry Martin, and Jacques Vesery.
For more than fifteen years, his work has been exhibited in international galleries and is held in museum collections in France and the United States.
Today, he conducts workshops and live demonstrations around the world, sharing the artistry and possibilities of woodturning with an international audience.
